Embracing the Whole Self: My Journey to Integrate Inner and Outer Beauty

Beauty often feels like a surface-level pursuit. For years, I worked as an outer beauty coach, focusing on hair and makeup. Yet, I sensed something was missing. True beauty, I realized, is not just about appearance but about the harmony between what we show to the world and what we nurture inside. This blog shares my journey from outer beauty to a deeper integration of inner and outer self, revealing how this transformation shaped my work, my family, and a new movement that challenges traditional beauty standards.

Starting with Outer Beauty
My career began in the world of hair and makeup. I loved helping people feel confident through their appearance. Styling hair, applying makeup, and creating looks that made clients shine was rewarding. But over time, I noticed that while outer beauty could boost confidence temporarily, it didn’t always lead to lasting fulfillment or self-understanding.
Clients often came back with the same struggles, despite looking great on the outside. This made me question: What if beauty was more than skin deep? What if the way we feel inside shapes how we truly shine?
Adding Inner Work to My Practice
This curiosity led me to explore coaching and meditation in 2011. I started offering meditation groups alongside my beauty services. These sessions helped clients connect with their inner selves, calm their minds, and build self-awareness. The feedback was powerful. People began to see changes not just in their appearance but in how they related to themselves and others.
I realized that combining outer beauty with inner work created a fuller, more meaningful experience. This insight inspired me to open Total Beauty Spa, a space where clients could nurture both their external look and internal well-being.
Total Beauty Spa: A Space for Integration
At Total Beauty Spa, we offered traditional beauty treatments alongside meditation and coaching sessions. This combination allowed clients to experience beauty as a holistic concept. For example:
A client might start with a facial or hairstyle makeover.
Then join a guided meditation to explore self-acceptance.
Follow up with coaching to address personal challenges or goals.
This approach helped people see that their outer beauty reflected their inner state. When they worked on self-awareness and emotional health, their radiance became more authentic and lasting.
Diving Deeper into Inner Work
As my passion for inner work grew, I specialized in psychological projection, a concept that explains how we often see in others what we deny in ourselves. Becoming a holistic therapist allowed me to guide people through deep self-discovery. This work revealed patterns, fears, and strengths that shaped their lives.
Helping clients understand projection gave them tools to take responsibility for their emotions and reactions. It was empowering to witness transformations where people stopped blaming others and started owning their growth.
Training Women in Leadership with Ethics and Self-Awareness
Alongside therapy, I began training women to rise into leadership roles. This training emphasized ethics, self-awareness, and personal responsibility. Leadership, I believe, is not just about power but about integrity and conscious influence.
The program included:
Workshops on ethical decision-making
Exercises to build emotional intelligence
Discussions on balancing ambition with compassion
Many women shared how this training helped them lead with confidence and authenticity, breaking away from toxic leadership models they had encountered.
Aaliya’s Parallel Journey
My daughter Aaliya’s path mirrored and complemented mine. She pursued a doctorate in psychology while working as a model and actress. Being petite, she often faced rejection in the modeling world, which traditionally favors certain body types.
Despite challenges, Aaliya stayed grounded in strong ethics and self-awareness. She used her experiences to question industry norms and advocate for more inclusive representation. Her academic background gave her tools to understand the psychological impact of beauty standards on self-esteem.
Responding to a Changing World
As toxic dynamics and unhealthy expressions of masculinity became more visible in society, Aaliya and I felt called to create something bigger. We wanted to build a movement where inner and outer beauty are fully connected, where women lead with awareness and ethics, and where beauty standards expand beyond size or appearance.
Creating Projection Models: A Conscious Modeling Agency
Together, we launched Projection Models, a petite modeling agency with a difference. Our mission is to break traditional beauty standards and promote a new vision where inner qualities shape outer presence. The name “Projection” reflects the idea that what is inside each person naturally projects outward.
Projection Models focuses on:
Ethical representation of women in modeling
Leadership development for models
Promoting self-awareness and personal responsibility
Challenging size-based discrimination in the industry
By combining Aaliya’s modeling experience and psychology expertise with my background in coaching and therapy, we offer models more than just jobs. We provide a platform for growth, confidence, and conscious leadership.
What This Journey Taught Me
This journey taught me that beauty is a whole-self experience. Outer appearance matters, but it is deeply connected to inner health, values, and awareness. When these elements align, beauty becomes a powerful expression of authenticity.
Some key lessons include:
Self-awareness transforms how we show up: Understanding our emotions and patterns changes our presence.
Ethics guide true leadership: Leading with integrity creates lasting impact.
Breaking norms requires courage: Challenging beauty standards means standing up for inclusion and respect.
Inner work supports outer confidence: Meditation, coaching, and therapy build a foundation for genuine radiance.
Moving Forward with Purpose
Our work at Projection Models continues to grow, inspiring women to embrace their full selves. We invite others to join this movement by:
Reflecting on their own inner and outer beauty connection
Supporting ethical and inclusive representation in all industries
Leading with self-awareness and responsibility
Beauty is not a mask or a role. It is a reflection of who we are inside. When we embrace the whole self, we create a more compassionate, authentic, and powerful world.
